No-Lawn-Landscape---Pat-SullivanPresented by Pat Sullivan, Smart Garden Design

Come get ideas and inspiration for the many ways to use the space now occupied by lawn.

What if you didn’t have a lawn? Watering restrictions have driven many homeowners to tear out their lawns
and replace them with rock. That seems such a shame, because you can do so many other things with that space that still saves water! You could create a landscape that invites you to enjoy it. Thinking about your pets or your children? There will be ideas for that, too. Topics will also include meditation/exercise spaces, entertaining areas, really impact, and artificial turf pro’s & cons.

Pat Sullivan has a degree in Horticulture from Texas A&M, and has been in the industry since the 1970’s. She has been a garden designer in Colorado Springs for over ten years, and has a landscape design course for homeowners given in the spring.

Free to all at the Colorado Technical University,
4435 North Chestnut (exit Garden of the Gods Road).

HAS Demonstration Garden Receives All-America Selections Award!

AAS_logo.jpgGreat news! The Demonstration Garden at Monument Valley Park has won First Place for landscape design by the All-America Selections organization, a non-profit, formed in 1932, that promotes plants that work well all across the country.

The garden is manned by volunteers, and we support the garden with fund raising to enhance the garden in a myriad of ways, and to support one full time gardener – Peg Kohl. Thanks to her, we are seeing a garden, one in existence for 50 years, come alive again. Paths are being refreshed, dead wood removed, and care and maintenance of the existing plants being improved. An exciting new development is the addition of a lupine path, made possible by the donation of 400+ lupines from Britton Nursery. Gardens aren’t made or even improved in a day, but the first place nod from the All America Selections is an indication that we can hold our heads high with pride in our oasis in the city.
